Physician Ridicule
When dealing with people we tend to assume many things about the person in front of us. It is normal for us to make a crude joke or mimic the person when they make us annoyed or frustrated. Normal doesn't make it right though... Have now been on the other side, hearing doctors degrade my character and basically called me a liar and flat out classify me as a drug seeker...it hurt. So here is a message to all from someone who has been on both sides of the situation. Be careful with what you say and when you say it, not only did I leave still physically in pain but I also left emotionally hurt and humiliated. Nothing makes you better than someone else, not race or job or sex or age NOTHING....

Competition among the ill
Просмотров 2277 лет назад
It is becoming more and more apparent that there is a competition to see who is the sickest, who is most knowledgable, who can self diagnose and/or diagnose others. PLEASE always see a doctor to confirm anything you believe you may have and always uplift those who are sick instead of trying to be worse than them.

Gastroparesis and Body Image Issues

Gastroparesis can cause a lot of problems. Extreme weight gain and weight loss are both very common for those who suffer from Gastroparesis. They can cause extreme mental stress, weight is not a problem with just Gastroparesis so this goes out to all those fighting with their body image and self confidence.

Sepsis - A Silent Attack
Просмотров 6617 лет назад
A simple infection can turn deadly very fast. According to the CDC it kills more than 258,000 Americans each year and leaves thousands of survivors with life-changing after effects. There are over 1 million cases of sepsis each year, and it is the ninth leading cause of disease-related deaths. I'm lucky enought to have survived but I wouldn't want to take that chance again.
My fight against depression

Opening up and talking about my depression was one of the hardest things I have ever been able to do. Standing in front of strangers and talking about my depression....it was a childhood nightmare! My hope though is to help just one person realize they are not alone and life can improve, it may just take some time.

    Are you on any benzodiazpam or muscle relaxers?You seem slow in your speech and movements. This might be the reason why they thought you where drug seeking. I'm not trying to be rude just letting you know. I also have been treated this way. I have multiple sclerosis and my flare up are very painful. It seems like if you go to the doctor for pain you are treated poorly. The crazy thing is the #1 reason people go to the doctor is for pain.

    Dear how do the doctors determine you can have IV treatment at home?

    • @daliachokr
      @daliachokr 7 лет назад

      Lali Shops We tried medication first to bring my heart rate down but it made my already low blood pressure tank out and I wound up hurt. We had noticed that anytime I was connected to IV fluids during hospital admissions my heart rate was in the 80s vs 100s. At that time I was still trying to get control of my health issues and so we decided instead of messing with more med we'd place a port and start fluids. It wasn't a decision we took likely because my immune system in highly compromised making my chances of getting an infection higher.

      Thank you for answering so much. Is this good for fatigue? I'm currently bed bound.

    • @daliachokr
      @daliachokr 7 лет назад

      Lali Shops if I choose not to run fluids one night I do feel more fatigued. I can't guarantee it will help tremendously but it is a noticeable difference, which could just be due to my hr being significantly lower.

    do you reuse your feed bags? My husband is on 3 feeds a day and I've been using a new bag each time. What do you do? If you reuse a bag how do you clean it?

    • @daliachokr
      @daliachokr 7 лет назад

      Ruth Lipsitz when I ran tube feeds it was either a 24 cycle or 12 hours (which I would do overnight) but I was told it was OK to reuse a bag for 24 hours. If I chose to stop my feed and resume it later in the day I either rinsed out the bag well and then primed the line with also or I stuck it in the fridge (formula is good for 12 hrs in the fridge after it's opened) but if your insurance is paying for you to get 3 bags/day I'd use a new one each time just to make sure I would avoid getting any bad formula/contamination!

    OMGosh! I was just diagnosed with dystonia a couple days ago and so much of what you say resonates with me. For years they labeled with me anxiety and loaded me up with so many medications to try over months and years.... Phenergan, Compazine, Thorazine, Reglan, Toradol. I had a dystonic reaction from compazine and they had no clue what was happening to me while I was in the hospital. They told my husband that he should leave me, because it wasn't going to be an easy road that was almost 20 years ago! My husband almost punched him in the face. I was diagnosed with dysautonomia about 4 years ago and just started my journey with POTS, Gastroparesis, and all my symptoms associated with that. My muscles lock in my feet and ankles and I have been having trouble walking.

    • @daliachokr
      @daliachokr 7 лет назад

      Jennifer Leigh WOW I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like you have an amazing and caring husband. I definitely got lucky when I went to the er for my compazine reaction and the Dr connected it right away. That was 5 years before my dystonia started for no known reason. I had a dystonic episode happen right in front of a neurologist and she told me it's cuz I was taking pain medication, pain medication that was the only thing allowing me to run tube feeds. She said since I was an addict it wouldn't stop till I got rehab. I've been off pain med for 2 yrs and still get dystonic episodes if i miss 2 doses of the anti seizure type medication we found that worked even while I was on pain meds. My GI was furious and sent the longest email I've ever seen him type!

    Phenergan, Reglan and Haldol are a few others that can cause dystonia. Phenergan is used for nausea and sometimes in cough syrup. Reglan is used for GI problems but also for migraines. Haldol is a psychiatric medication but also used for migraine. I would stay from any of these commonly used medications, especially in ERs.

    • @daliachokr
      @daliachokr 8 лет назад

      hi yes thank you for those! I've never allowed them to give me Reglan due to the high risk of adverse reactions. For a long time we stayed away from Phenergan due to my Compazine reaction but I've been able to tolerate it OK thankfully as I need it for nausea control at times when Zofran isn't enough. they use halidol for nausea control sometimes, I've never had any issues but I've had it maybe twice & it didn't help so I don't get it anymore. it's a horrible adverse reaction to end up having!

    Hi Dalia I came across your video and noticed you are a warrior fighting day to day illnesses. I am a new nurse working in the ER, and need some serious help. For anyone that has a severe chronic illness(es) what is the best way to make them feel comfortable? Had a patient who was suffering from Dysautonomia which was new to me and was crying because a Dr prescribed her a med in which she has severe reactions to it (difficulty breathing and her pulse is so faint) the thing was, the dr kept brushing it off as if it were nothing serious but deep inside I knew this woman was completely afraid. And well being a nurse, sometimes you have to follow dr's orders but I did not insert her med through her port bc I was scared something bad was going to happen....she thanked me and she had this other med which I did insert that made her feel better. What can us nurses do to make chronic illness patients feel better or do when they are in a flare up? A response or video would be great. Thank you so much. Never heard of Dysautonomia in my whole entire life

      Thank you! I feel it is important for us nurses to treat patients that have chronic illness with extreme care and be more attentive. Especially with conditions one has never heard of. Nurses and drs need to stop playing dumb thinking "ohhh it's all in their head" when it's not. She even told me that some nurses always ignore her and just do what the dr asks them to do. Thank you again Dalia

    I have dysautonomia and definitely know how stressful it can be. We spend Christmas Day with my family and then afterwards go to Ohio (which is a 6 hour car ride) to see my husband's family. Sometimes it's hard when we're with them cause I won't be feeling the greatest but I also don't want to say anything..even though his parents are very understanding. We stay at a hotel just so if the house gets too full/loud/crazy (there are two little kids so sometimes it's just too much for me to be around) we can go back to the hotel for the night so I can recoup. The key, like you said, it just resting and giving yourself whatever it is that you need. I've been sick for 6 years now and still struggle to find a good balance. This was a very good video though. We discussed Reglan and decided the risks far out weighed the possible benefits. Since this video my small intestinal motility has caught up with my stomach so I rely on TPN but I can still eat a little most days without throwing up. We tried many medications, multiple times if they did cause severe reactions, but I'm at the point where we decided it's best to just treat my nausea and pain so I can be stable enough to live my life and stay out of the hospital as much as possible.

    Jennifer you could kind of say that. The term "adrenal gland disorder" indicates that your adrenal glands do not function properly. That covers everything. Adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's Syndrome, Addison's disease etc.....are the actual diagnosis which would tell the doctor what is wrong with your adrenal glands, such as producing too much cortisol vs not enough cortisol in the body.

      I have no Adrenal glands so i've lived with it for 19 years it is horrible knowing small events could cause a huge impact with your life like going into shock and a possible coma...

      Jennifer Gellar “No, adrenal fatigue and adrenal insufficiency are not the same. Adrenal Fatigue is not a recognized medical diagnosis but rather a term used to describe a cluster of symptoms. Adrenal Insufficiency is a life threatening medical condition requiring prompt treatment with the use of steroids.” This was taken from aiunited.org

    Hi Dalia, Thanks for taking the time to talk about your experience with adrenal insufficiency. At the end of September of this year I took a trip to the mountains with my mother and boyfriend. I got a pretty bad sinus infection/ head cold because of the climate change and the heavy chemical cleaner odor in our room. Since I got better, I've had major blood sugar problems. I went and got it checked out and it turns out I'm hypoglycemic. I eat a plant based diet, and am pretty active. So this was shocking. I'm starting to think it's AI because I get really "stressed" feeling and I start feeling funny. Even when I eat small meals. I've been sleeping 12 hours, and after a physically taxing day my body is sore and I have a headache all the following day. I have a lot of allergic reactions with no diagnosis of any allergies. It's just weird. Could there be a possibility of me having AI?

      So sorry for the late reaponse, I don't always get notifications on comments unfortunately. If you haven't seen your doctor I would say it's a big possibility. Adrenal insufficiency can manifest differently for each of us. It's always better to be ask, there's never any harm in that!

    Kevin, I would talk to your endocrinologist about adjusting your steroid....with all you have going on there could be other factors that is causing you to retain more fluid then you should be. I hope you can get this figured out!

      Sorry Jill. The order we chose for this years speeches were a Video made by a friemds, me and then my GI. The amazing woman who helped make me the spoonie advocate I am today is in that video briefly. That amazing woman is now under hospice care and every day I think of those who will not be able to enjoy her amazing vibrant spirit just hurts.
